About
Welcome to Starlight through the Storm!
My name is Cassie Creley, and I’m a 33-year-old living with multiple chronic health conditions in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. Storytelling is my passion.
One day I want to write shelves full of books, but that dream is on pause. I simply can’t pursue it right now because of my health, and, I also had to give up the communications job I loved at a library system three years ago. So I’m using my love of writing on this blog, sharing how I’m finding joy when life looks much different than planned.
My goal is to support others going through chronic illness, share what is strengthening my faith during tough times, and encourage others to let their creativity run wild.
What will you find on
Starlight through the Storm?
Tips for thriving with chronic illness
When speaking about chronic illness, my goal is to balance honesty with hope. I try to focus on the things chronic illness can’t take from us, share advice about how I cope with and manage my conditions, while being real about my own struggles. I want to use what I’ve been through to help others; this is one way I draw purpose through the pain.
My health conditions include:
– Dysautonomia
– Fibromyalgia
– ME/CFS
– Thyroid cancer (post thyroidectomy)
– Asthma
– An unidentified autoimmune disorder
– Insomnia
– Raynaud’s phenomenon
– Chronic migraines and headaches
– Multiple food, environmental, and chemical allergies/sensitivities
Encouragement for your soul
What do faith and joy look like during really challenging times? I share what helps me to live well even with all the ups and downs of chronic illness. Jesus is my anchor in the storm. Previously, I enjoyed volunteering in college and high school ministries at church, and God is reminding me that he can still use me to have an impact even when I’m at my weakest.
Your next great read
I share short and sweet mini book reviews of my favorite recent reads. This bookworm especially loves fantasy, but I’m omnivorous when it comes to genre. You’ll find a mix of historical fiction, sci fi, contemporary fiction, classics, devotionals YA lit, and more. I also share tips to help you set annual reading goals (and here are my 2020 goals).
Creative inspiration
My first love is writing, so I share what I’m learning about the craft, how I’m setting writing goals, as well as the publishing process. I’ve had poems published in literary journals and am working towards having a book ready to go out into the world someday.
If you’re like me and have limited energy but still want to prioritize time to be creative, I share simple craft and card-making projects. I believe there is no such thing as too much scrapbook paper. One of my favorite ways to be creative lately is to alter coloring book pages. (For instance, here’s Cinderella as Rosie the Riveter.)
Connection with the chronic illness community
I am passionate about having a place where we can share our stories. That’s why I created my Invisible Illness, Visible Worth Interview Project. You can read others’ stories about chronic illness, chronic pain, and invisible illness here.
A place to share your own story
I’d love to interview you! We can all raise awareness and educate others about our chronic illness. (You don’t have to be a blogger or writer!) Find out how to be a part of the project here.

What else should you know about me? Well you may have guessed from my blog name that I love astronomy and the ocean. If I could be anything for a day, I would choose a mermaid. I love chocolate, cats, summer, and Steampunk. My ideal party would involve an elaborate theme and costumes/cosplay. (I really want to go to a masquerade and/or a Regency ball someday!)
I’m a contributor at The Mighty.
