DIY Felt Christmas Banners

Today I’m sharing an idea for an easy, festive Christmas banner, which makes a perfect gift!

I made these banners for my dad to decorate his office at work. I love being able to make homemade gifts for my family. However, I have found it can be challenging to find gifts I can make for men. I’m good at making cute scarves, papercrafts, and jewelry—things which aren’t exactly on my dad’s wishlist! If you’re in a similar boat, this banner is the craft idea you’re looking for.

After being unable to turn up an ideas even after searching Pinterest, I came up with the idea of making a felt banner. My dad was looking for something to bring a touch of holiday cheer to his workspace, and I knew Dad wouldn’t want something bulky taking up space in his office. I saw this felt and loved the rich colors. They look festive and Christmasy, but not girly.

What I love about this banner is you can customize it depending on who or what its for. Change the colors up to match your friend’s style. Change the size to fit in a window, over a mantle, or above a doorway. You can also change the words and colors to match any holiday, or even a birthday.

Here’s a quick tutorial:

Cut the pendants twice as long as you want them—then fold them in half to make a sort of felt sandwich. You’ll hot glue the two sides along the bottom and partway up the sides. Leave some space free of glue at the fold so you can thread your twine through (once the glue has dried). You’re creating a little pocket for the twine. (You could use ribbon too if you wished!) Add mini clothes pins for a rustic touch, and to keep your pendants from escaping.

My banners are pretty small—my snowflake punch is about 2 inches. I cut out the 2 inch letters on a Cricut. (Note: I use an older version of the Cricut.)

I’ll link to the products I used (or similar products) below so you can replicate the look.

My dad loved this gift and said he has gotten compliments from his coworkers. Win!
