Gift Idea: Mommy and Me Craft Kits

I have a fun gift idea to share with you all today!

I got the idea for this because one of my close friends is a mom of a little one and pregnant with her second child. I wanted to give her something that would be a ready-made project for her to enjoy with her little girl once her little boy arrives. This kit will make it easy for her to spend some one-on-one time with her daughter.

Here are the three mini-kits I put together.

I made these paper dolls using this dress-up cartridge for the paper-cutting machine called a Cricut. (Note: I used the older version of the Cricut. Here is the most basic version of the latest Cricut. Here are more options for everyday paper dolls, and another style of paper dolls. I checked, and you can still use cartridges like these with the new Cricut machines.)

Paper Dolls and Clothes

I cut out dolls with hair to match my friend and her daughter, then got to work cutting out a mini wardrobe for them. (Be sure to select the “tabbed” option when cutting these out on the Cricut.) I used some patterned paper (double sided paper makes for even more clothing options.)

I also cut out plain white and pink outfits that can be decorated with pens and markers or stickers. I tucked a few stickers into this kit.

Next I made two kits using pages and stickers from this fun stack: Sweet Treats by Melissa and Doug (which my friends with kids say is a great brand.)

Stickers ice cream cones and cupcakes

I cut out an ice cream cone page for both my friend and her daughter. I cut out a few options for decorating so that the number of options wouldn’t be overwhelming—all my friend and her daughter have to do is decorate their ice cream cones!

I did the same with two pages of cupcakes. Aren’t these decorations just the cutest? This brand also makes a stack of food stickers that you can make into meals, and it looks so fun!

These stacks are recommended for ages 4+ and my friend’s daughter is not quite that age, but I figured with her mom’s help, she could still enjoy playing with these stickers. If the ice cream ends up floating above the cones or the cupcake toppers turn out a little topsy turvy, no worries. I know she’ll have fun doing something novel with her mom.

I packaged each kit in a plastic sleeve. You could also use large manila envelopes to easily separate the different elements.

This gift idea could easily be tailored to work for kids of any age.

I think craft kits would also make a great present for any child going through health challenges or as a “get well” gift for a child staying in a hospital or recovering at home from illness.

This could also be a great idea to gift to parents who deal with chronic illness. With you doing the prep work, they can use these kits to more easily make something fun, and make memories, with their kids, without using up all their limited energy setting up a craft or activity.

I hope these ideas spark your creativity!

What would you include in a “mommy and me” or “daddy and me” craft kit?
