Reading List Printables to Keep Track of All Your Books

For everyone who could use help keeping track of books you’re reading, I’ve created reading list printables that will make your reading life more organized.

If you’re like me, you spend a lot of time reading and thinking about books, and it can be a little challenging to keep track of them all. (Books have a known tendency to be a little wild…)

I’m definitely one of those people who read three, four, five books at once. I love it—I’m usually reading a fiction (usually YA fantasy), a nonfiction or classic, and a devotional or apologetics book at once. I like to mix things up.

Read on to see how these cute library checkout card printables can help you organize your TBR stack!

Reading Challenges that Inspired the Printables

There are a few things I’ve found to be particularly challenging when it comes to keeping track of what I’m reading.

First, a lot of the books I read are digital, and I’m a very visual person.

I find myself wondering: did I place a hold on that book my friend and I were going to read at the same time, or did I just think about doing it? Wasn’t there an ebook that I bought with my Christmas money that I didn’t read yet? What book did I last check out in that series?

Second, I love my library, but the fact that some books have to be returned before I finish them means I’m left wondering—did I ever finish that book?

This gets especially confusing with ebooks because I don’t have to do anything for the book to just vanish from my Kindle. I need somewhere to write a reminder to place a hold again.

Plus, I’ll discover library holds that come in at random, which can add to the feeling of juggling what books I’m reading and wanting to read next.

Finally, sometimes I find myself in a book slump (especially when my exhaustion is at its worse) where for the life of me I can’t decide what book to start after I finish one.

I struggle with brain fog due to my health, and I want to simplify my reading life so I can use my mental energy for reading!

Using the Reading List Printables

So I’ve created six lists in these printables: Currently Reading, To Check Out Again, Books To Read Next, On Hold At Library, Downloaded Ebooks, and Book Recommendations.

You might say, wait Cassie, isn’t On Hold and Read Next basically the same thing? Well, I made separate lists because sometimes I’ll have a book on hold that has a 10 week wait time. So I want to note that on a separate list for later.

I’m especially looking forward to noting Downloaded Ebooks because I find the digital books I’ve bought can be out of sight and out of mind.

I’m definitely a planner when it comes to books—and I enjoy that and benefit from it! Planning ahead helps me read more and have books at my fingertips. This doesn’t mean I can’t be spontaneous and grab a new book.

Maybe you’re a planner and maybe you’re not. I hope at least some of these lists will be useful tools for you to knock out your reading goals. My hope is they’ll help you think of reading in a different way as you track your progress and dream about what to read next!

If you try out these printables and find that being more structured about your reading isn’t adding to your enjoyment, then drop them! There’s no one right way to plan your reading, or a need to plan at all if that’s not your style.

More Ideas for Your Reading List Printables

You could note on the printables what day your library books are due back. I found that helpful when I checked out physical books.

These printables could be a fun way for kids to keep track of their school reading, especially as we’re in back-to-school season.

Also I’ve been wanting to record where I hear about books. I love the idea of noting whether I heard of a book from a friend, blog post, YouTuber, newsletter, etc. It’s fun to circle back to the friend who suggested a book and discuss what we thought of it together. It’s also useful to note where you heard of a book to see if their future recommendations are a good fit for you.

PS here are some of my reading recommendations.

You could also add a star next to your favorite books after you’ve finished reading them.

And you could use these printables as bookmarks so they’ll always be close at hand.

Get the Reading Printables

I’ve made the printables in two color versions: black and white, and a version that looks like parchment. The first one is best for saving ink.

I’ve also made printable versions that consists of just the Currently Reading and To Read Next lists. I have a feeling those two will be the most useful to the most people.

They all print on 8.5×11” paper, with a white border. There are dotted lines so you can easily cut them.
